Prejudice proved to be prejudice
Lake Argyle, a man made lake, was not on my list to visit as it was formed after building the Argyle Dam. I’m not such a fan of these things. Carol heard the place was amazing, so that’s why we stopped here. It proved to be right when the sun slowly rose over the island and blue water surrounding them. The dam was surprisingly small and built just where the gorge of the Argyle River ends. I forgot that this country is ultra dry and every drop of water is welcomed by plants and animals. Making this a good birdwatching paradise. Other than ‘seeing’ the place there is not much else to do, so we decided to head towards Katherine Gorges (Nitmiluk) NP.
Northern Territory
The crossing of the border meant a new time zone of 1.5 hours ahead, so we lost close to 2 hours of our day. With a 110 km/h we drove pass the many gum trees, little aboriginal communities before arriving in Katherine. The base for going to Katherine Gorges NP (Nimiluk NP) famous for the deep gorges and pleasant bushwalking trails. Even this late afternoon it was boiling hot and we started the 2 hour hike. This park is so charming with the river and and cliffs. What makes it so special is the plant vegetation which cannot be found anywhere else. All is very green and lush. Even the plateau on top of the cliffs. The other part of the park has waterfalls, pools, and cascades. Here I saw the fresh water crocodiles, egret species, toads, frogs, and numerous wallabies. It was a good ending of a roadtrip. Again time went fast, so we drove to Darwin. I dropped Carol at the airport straight away. I brought back the camper and took the bus into Darwin. With the sun almost setting I didn’t see a lot of Darwin. I thought to have a few days to explore it before starting work on the mango farm. As things went a little faster the next morning my pickup to the farm was arranged. Darwin comes a little later.
Next time more about working on a farm.
Cheerio,
