Suriname

The Amazon rainforest

A must see: the Amazon rainforest in Suriname’s interior has many adventures to offer. The boat ride to the village Apoera is a thrilling journey upstream on the Corantijn River. Unspoilt mangroves, trees, and many birds can be seen. People here are completely self sufficient and above all: friendly. I went to one of the bigger waterfalls: the Blanche Marie Falls. A great spot for swimming and fishing or just to relax and listen to rainforest sounds. There are even more places you can go to, although you’ll need more time. Something I lacked. It’s a way to meet Indians who are the original inhabitants of Suriname.
